Under the Volcano Festival of Art and Social Change
Under the Volcano Festival of Art and Social Change (UTV) is one of the largest arts & activism events in Canada. It offers organizers of grassroots and non-profit organizations the opportunity to come together to build allies and reach out to a wide variety of people. For eighteen years, an incredibly diverse group of people have gathered in Cates Park/Whey-ah-Wichen to share, inspire and celebrate. They are deeply committed to ensuring that marginalized voices are highlighted, that the social justice movement and its history is well represented, and that local activists continue to organize in solidarity with global struggles. The festival's line-up consistently presents socially-conscious and radical artists, rather than relying on "name" or mainstream bands. Through-out its 18 year history, UTV has maintained a "by-donation" admissions policy to ensure accessibility, and has not sought out corporations to underwrite costs through logo placements or advertising. The Fund's support honours the Festival's grassroots record and its ethical style of organization for a truly "community" festival. For more information, visit http://volcano.resist.ca |
